The sacred breaking in through illness before the person has agreed to be called — the divine-side of the initiatory crisis, where the sacred does not invite but arrives, and the arrival is experienced as sickness, shattering, or extremity. Korean sinbyeong (신병, "spirit illness") + Sumerian me: the cosmic ordinance of being chosen without being asked.
