The going-back-that-fetches as received-ordinance — the return along one's own past, made not to dwell there but to retrieve a specific dropped thing and carry it forward, so that the future is fed by what the past still holds. The retrieval is decreed before it is taken: it is not taboo to go back for that which you have forgotten.
