Definition
Divine patience as purposeful restraint of power that could act immediately but chooses to wait — the temporal self-restriction by which the one who has the right and the power to judge delays judgment so that the other may return. The standard is not lowered (that is tolerance). The consequence is not cancelled (that is mercy-cancel). The power is not absent (that is weakness). The acting is deferred, and the deferral IS the gift.
